Chuseok Day

Outside Hanok

The Chuseok display showcases an image of a traditional Korean holiday. One such symbol is the Hanok, the traditional Korean house, representing cultural heritage. Chuseok is celebrated during the full moon, which marks the harvest season. Persimmon trees, with their fruit ripening at this time of year, also symbolize abundance and the spirit of the harvest.

Hangul Day

Happy Hangul Day

Hangul Day, celebrated on October 9th, commemorates the creation and proclamation of the Korean alphabet, Hangul, by King Sejong in 1443. This holiday celebrates Hangul as a key part of Korean identity and pride, honoring King Sejong’s vision of making literacy accessible to all Koreans. In the display, the Korean alphabet is demonstrated by the use of different characters that combine to make words. Using the characters featured on the side of the Hangul display one can combine them to make words. Also note that King Sejong is featured wearing a red king’s robe known as gonryongpo while reading a book.
