- The apartments were named for Dewella Bruns Seaburg, the only daughter of Herman Bruns who had passed away shortly after giving birth to her only child, Earl.
- The Bruns' had plans to erect two more identical units north along Wilshire, but with the 1929 Stock Market Crash, those plans were abandoned. The large setback only made the Dewella more striking from the street.
