National Preservation Week

April 27 – May 3, 2025

WHEREAS, the American Library Association and its partners established National Preservation Week in 2010 to highlight the importance of preserving cultural heritage, historical collections, and community memory in the United States; and

WHEREAS, libraries, museums, archives, and individuals across the country safeguard more than 4.8 billion items, including books, manuscripts, photographs, textiles, digital media, and artifacts that document the rich and diverse history of our nation; and

WHEREAS, the Fullerton Public Library has long been a steward of local history through its Local History Room, which for over fifty years has housed documents, photographs, and resources that tell the story of Fullerton’s people, places, and culture; and

WHEREAS, in 2008, Fullerton was designated a Preserve America Community, recognizing its commitment to preserving cultural and historic assets; and

WHEREAS, in 2025, the Fullerton Public Library launched a Digital Archive of Local Historical Landmarks, providing the public with 24/7 access to digitized photographs, documents, and historical narratives that honor Fullerton’s landmarks, including those no longer standing; and

WHEREAS, this digital archive, together with the physical Local History Room, expands access to historical resources for researchers, residents, educators, students, and City staff—enriching public knowledge and supporting preservation efforts throughout the community; and

WHEREAS, the City of Fullerton recognizes and celebrates the work of the Fullerton Public Library and other local organizations in preserving the history, stories, and built environment of our City;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT I, Fred Jung, Mayor of the City of Fullerton, on behalf of the entire Fullerton City Council, do hereby proclaim the week of April 27 through May 3, 2025, as National Preservation Week in the City of Fullerton, and encourage all residents to explore and support preservation efforts, including the Library’s new Digital Archive and the Local History Room, as we honor the legacy of our past and safeguard it for future generations.

New Fullerton Public Library hours due to Elevator Enhancement

Beginning Tuesday, March 4th, the library will be operating under adjusted hours while the building's elevators are under construction. We anticipate the noise levels due to the construction to be very disruptive and have adjusted our hours to the following: Sunday - Monday: Closed | Tuesday - Thursday: 2:30pm-7pm | Friday: 2:30pm-5pm | Saturday: 11am-5pm
