Friendship bracelet and plastic lanyard kits are available for students in 7th-12th grade to take home to complete and return to the Library for volunteer credit. These completed bracelets and lanyards will be used as incentive prizes for various library events.
How to participate:
- Interested students in 7th-12th grade may speak to the Teen Services Librarian in the Teen Area at the Main Library to pick up a kit. Parents or guardians will not be allowed to pick up kits or return completed projects on behalf of their student.
- Volunteers can take home one kit at a time and will be asked to fill out a log with their contact information, the date they picked up their kit, and the date they returned it.
- Bring your kit home to complete at your own pace and then return your completed project back to the library.
- All required material and instructions will be provided in each kit. Written instructions are included but interested volunteers may look up different tutorials and patterns to use with the provided material. The Library will not accept bracelets or lanyards made with extra material that the volunteer may have supplied.
- Volunteers may take home a new kit after successfully returning their previous kit.
How to receive volunteer credit:
- 1 hour of volunteer credit will be awarded for each accepted kit. Each volunteer is limited to up to 10 hours of volunteer credit for each kit type (10 bracelets & 10 lanyards) per year.
- Volunteers are expected to take extra care, effort, and time to create quality projects. Kits will be accepted at the discretion of the Teen Services Librarian. Completed kits will not be accepted if there are loose knots, twisted lanyard strings, if material other than what was provided is used, or if purchased lanyards or bracelets are returned in exchange. If the kit does not qualify, the Teen Services Librarian will contact the volunteer with the opportunity to resubmit the kit with corrections to receive volunteer credit.
- Please allow 7 business days after submitting your kit to check your volunteer credit.
