Events, books, anime, Twilight, movies, and other things I find hilarious.
(oh, this trailer has no subtitles, but don’t worry, the dvd does!)
Shall We Dance is a movie that originally came out in Japan in 1996. I probably saw this movie for the first time back in 1997 when I was in high school and studying Japanese and really into Japanese comedies and drama on channel 18. There is an American remake from couple of years ago with Richard Gere and Jennifer Lopez, but I’m totally not referring to that movie. I’m talking about the original and the best.
Shall We Dance is basically a movie about a bored Japanese businessman who becomes enamored of a woman he sees from the train every night. She looks out of the window of a dance studio and he sees her look of sadness. So one night, after work, he works up the courage to go to the dance studio, but discovers that the only way to dance with her is to take private lessons, but they’re really expensive and he takes beginning ballroom dance classes. While he was there to meet this lady, he discovers that he loves ballroom dance. Of course his wife is worried that he is having an affair…
Why am I talking about this movie? It’s not random, it’s b/c I’m showing this movie on this Friday, July 18, at 6:30. That’s right, after the library closes. So come and see this free movie, it’s a really fun movie, and I think you would all enjoy it.
Bring your friends! TAG members can get service hours for showing up and bringing friends!
For TAG members, this is just a reminder that there is a meeting this Friday, July 11 in the Library Board room at 3:30.
For people who aren’t officially TAG members, if you’re interesting in volunteering more at the library and interested in helping developing library policies and eating free foods, you can join the TAG. Just show up to the meeting, just bring a filled out form.
There will be discussion about the library expansion and the future teen room plus food as usual so I hope to see you guys there!
Wall-E is easily one of the best movies of the summer, a movie that can be enjoyed by all ages, and when I say all ages, I mean all ages. Parents will enjoy this lovable robot and kids will love all the things that Wall-E can do. Many teenagers are starting to call Wall-E the perfect date movie, even though there is barely any talking and does not have any foul language or rated R material. This rated PG movie is sure to make you laugh over ten times. Personally, I laughed so hard the first time I watched it that I got a stomach ache in the first fifteen minutes of the movie. Even when I watched it the second time, it just got better and my appreciation for it just grew! I’m even going to watch it for a third time with another friend and I was supposed to watch it with my family. But yeah, it’s that good [:
So, what is Wall-E about? It is a scary omen of what is to come. That one day, we will pollute our planet, Earth, and have to live in space and that we will have to rely on robots to clean it up while we are gone. We will become a useless, lazy, unproductive, and supersized generation that does not even know how to walk. With the help of a robot with a personality and the love of its life, they go on to save the whole human population from “living the good life.” Wall-E is sure to warm up the people’s hearts and is a pure reflection of how much hard work Pixar put into this movie. I give it a ten out of ten!

Hey, I’m writing from the Annual ALA conference. It’s being held in Anaheim this and it’s normally held in various cities all over the US. Since it’s so local this year, I’m here, instead of at the library today. I’ll be back in the library on Tuesday.
I’ve visited a couple of different workshops but mostly I’ve been collecting lots and LOTS of free books, so there will be plenty of fresh books for the YA Summer Reading Club, and some new books for our manga and YA collections as well. As soon as I sort though my PILES of free books, I’ll bring them in and I’ll put some of them up here so you can see the cool kind of swag you can get at library conferences.
Well, ok cya all tomorrow!

Is a direct to internet movie called Dr. Horrible Sing-A-Long Blog. You can see the trailer here.
I’ll put up a direct link to the show when it comes out. But if you liked any of his other projects Buffy, Angel, Firefly, or Serenity, or his run on Astonishing X-Men then you might want to check it out.
Just a reminder that tomorrow is Teen Game Day. Held in the Auditorium as usual, from 3:30-5:30. I’ll try to bring my brother’s MarioKart game for the Wii, and Super Smash Brothers Brawl, so I hope to see you all there!
And for those who haven’t yet signed up for the YA Summer Reading Club, I highly encourage you all to sign up while you’re in the library tomorrow!!
Get Smart is a movie based on a tv from the 60s. This is even before my time. I think I might have seen some reruns on tv when I was really young. But regardless of not being very familiar with the original show, I found that the movie was really enjoyable and funnier than the critics give it credit for. The acting is good, the characters fulfill their roles within the story admirably, and the jokes are quite clever. My two particular favorite characters are the analysts at CONTROL played by Masi Oka (Hiro from Heroes) and Nate Torrence because I love a well written nerd. In fact, there is a direct to dvd movie being filmed which will parallel the story of Get Smart but will be from the perspective of the two analysts.
So, to make a not very long review shorter, it’s a really fun movie and you should see it.
B+
And because I know there will be a HUGE clamoring for the theme music to the original tv show, this is where you can find the sheet music.
If you’ve read all of the books by Stephenie Meyer and you just can’t wait for Breaking Dawn to come out in August, then you might want to try some of these books in the meantime.
