A Walk Through History

Before the first proper library opened in Fullerton, Flora Starbuck's Gem Pharmacy in 1888 housed the first books available to the public; the rest is history.

1907
Fullerton's first library building, located on North Pomona Avenue, was funded by a $10,000 Andrew Carnegie grant.



1927
The Boys and Girls Library was added just west of the Carnegie library.



1942
The WPA library was designed by Harry Vaughn, designer of the original Fullerton College campus.


1940s
The interior of the WPA library, now the Fullerton Museum Center on 301 North Pomona Avenue.



1973
The library's second bookmobile. This popular service was started in 1957.



1962
Built with a gift of $485,000 from the Hunt-Wesson Foundation, the Hunt Branch was designed by renowned architect William Pereira.


1973s
The new Main Library on 353 West Commonwealth Avenue.



1999
$1.6 million expansion of the Main Library.



2006
The Library celebrates its centenary.
